Over the years, I`ve come across some great products and tips that will help you save time, not just over Christmas, where we all seem to run out of time and are wrapping up pressies at midnight! But these tips will help you all year round!
TIGIS Dirty Secret is a dry spray shampoo - absolutely perfect for the days when you dont have time to wash your hair in the morning, or you`re going out straight after work. Brilliant for festivals too and for fringes!
Try and find yourself a combined cosmetic palette that does everything! Jelly Pong Pongs Shadow Taffy which comes in an amazing bird cage!! (great for a gift!) can be used as a cheek blush, lip gloss and even a silky, glossy eyeshadow! For £12.50 its a bargain!
I have even used St Tropezs Bronzing rocks as a face bronzer, eyeshadow and to give me a sunkissed look on my neck, shoulders and legs! All these little things save time and money and keep your makeup bag a bit lighter. At one point, my bag needed wheels, but now its much more manageable!
Oh, and if you do need a new makeup bag, why not try the Girls Aloud Lash kit - you get 5 sets of strip lashes, some makeup brushes and a fab makeupbag! All for £23. One final tip, make sure you regularly wipe the inside and outside of your makeup bags with an anti-bacterial wipe and the ends of your eyeliners and lip pencils! (If you sharpen them regularly, it keeps them fresh and hygenic too!

How Much Product Should I Really Use On My Skin? Can I Save Time And Money?!
Lets assume you are already using an effective and safe product (this is a minefield of choices in itself! -I`ll blog about product choice later!)
Too much or too little, and you wont get the results you desire. Too little and the effects will be diluted, too much and not only are you going to end up wasting money but your skins likely to get clogged up. And when its clogged up it doesnt work efficiently, function breaks down and spots/oiliness/dryness appear.
This may sound like an obvious thing to say, but read the box and read the little leaflet thats often found inside a good skincare product. Some companies spend billions in research a year, so why wouldnt you take advantage of their knowledge?!
If you have access to a great skin care salon like mine, OMG Hair & Beauty, Swindon, make use of the services and skills on offer. Skin Scanning is an excellent way of understanding your skin, its condition and needs and when having your first facial/buying new products, ask for help in application and amounts.
Typically, for each application, you shouldnt need more than a pea to five pence piece size of moisturiser for your face and neck. And as an example, for a Dermalogica moisturiser 50ml, I find that lasts 3 - 4 months on my clients. If you are finding that its not lasting long at all, rather than plastering huge amounts that just sit on top of the skin, you`d be better off adding a hydrating booster to your moisturiser or using a hydrating masque.
Sometimes its not the moisturiser thats wrong, if you are using a cleanser that is too harsh or a toner that has alcohol in it, it will strip your skin of its natural oil and make it feel much more dryer.
If your`e trying to save money or time, why not try dual action products such as a combined cleanser and exfoliator or a mosturiser that has SPF in it. Some cleansers such as Dermalogicas Dermal Clay Cleanser can double up as an oil controlling masque.
Apply masques with fan brushes, you will be so suprised at how much product you save. And watch out for gel based cleansers. Its so common for people to use it undiluted and waste product. Really combine it with lots of water and foam up well.
Eye creams should be applied gently, around the orbital bone, rice grain size, with a gentle patting motion, using your wedding ring finger. Some eye creams can also be used for around the lip area, when you start to see those pesky little lines appear!
I hope you`ve found this article useful, please post back with anyquestions or comments.

National Finals here we come!
Just heard that we have reached the Finals for Professional Beautys Best Beauty Salon Employer in UK Award. This is fantastic news, as you are judged on management skills, processes, strategy, employee development and training etc, so it shows we are a professional, caring, fair employer. The only bit to fear is the trip to London in the New Year for a Dragons Den style grilling!!! Eeeek!

Sweet Sixteen!
Our Sweet Sixteen makeover photoshoot went really well with our group of 4 young ladies, they were so excited! They arrived at OMG, with enough suitcases full of clothes, that I thought they were going on holiday for a fortnight!
We did their hair and makeup and made them look fabulous! Its quite tricky to get the balance right for teenagers, if you go to much one way they can look too hard and grown up, but you also want to create a look that maybe they havent created for themselves before. They chose to go for a relaxed, soft, romantic feel. Then they were whisked away to the photographers studios - Kris Talikowski - and they got to play around in front of the camera. Group shots, individual shots, serious, relaxed, all types of styles really, and a clothes changeover half way through.
Ive had some great feedback from the girls, that they really enjoyed their day and I cant wait to see the final shots. Heres a sneak preview of just one shot....

Go go go!!
This week has been a mega week for me and OMG, when I got to work Monday and saw the week ahead of me and what I needed to get done, I was half tempted to go back home and hide under the duvet! So much has happened that I dont know where to start!
Our Blink n Go launch went really well with loads of appointments on saturday and all clients pleased. I`m hoping that word of mouth plays a part now and we can get to see many more lash clients in and make their eyes look amazing!
This week I also managed to get our new online shop live - its a fabulous site with loads of great products, gifts, ideas and advice. http://www.omgmee.com/
We`ve been doing some great bright fashion colour on our clients hair, and as Jess and Rach from our hair team have lovely red and purple hair, so I arranged a mini photoshoot for the two of them. We`ll use the pics to show off to our clients what brilliant colour services we offer. It was the second event for Jess that week as the day before, me and her were involved in making a video for school pupils of 11 years of age - helping them to understand how important it is to study and gain a professional skill. Jess did brilliantly!
I dashed off to Bristol for a TIG seminar on Tuesday and met Helen Ward who gave an inspirational talk. The speakers that evening have been in the industry for 20 years plus and it was really interesting to hear what they had to say.
Then came the switch on of our streets lights for christmas! We now have 9 xmas trees on our street roofs, with beautiful blue led sparkly lights. It was lovely to see the fireworks above our shop as the lights were switched on!
The xmas lights got me in the festive spirit, so as well as making up lots of christmas inspired voucher sets for the salon (you should see our leopard skin and gold bags!) I managed to decide what starter to cook for christmas day - scollops and pea and mint sauce! It also made me realise that its only 5 weeks til xmas, so I`m going to try and drop a few pounds before then (I think I`ll sneakily have a few caci body treatments to help me along the way!!!)
Saturday night we ended up the week with a team visit to see the Swindon Wildcats play ice hockey. Its a great night out and a good release by shouting at the opposition!
Being a beautician not a hairdresser, I never find it easy to do my hair when going out and the hair team dont always have the time to do mine for me, so this week, I did play about at home with my ghds and just gave myself a natural tousled side do, I dont think it was too bad for an amateur. Those ghds are amazing!
Phew, now I know why I slept 11 hours saturday night!! Looking forward to next week - Movember charity event, Sweet 16 photoshoot, xmas decs up, Professional Beauty judging for the 2011 awards and I mustnt forget the xmas songs on our salon ipod!!!

Blink N Go at OMG!
We are escatic to be launching Blink N Go at OMG hair and beauty this week! These individual lash extensions can be done in 20 minutes and we can add colour too! Going through the training was very intense and challenged our skills as its a new technique but we absolutely love the results and are now flying with them!
Feedback from our models has been brilliant, all 25 of them! Great for holidays, weddings, parties and when you wake in the morning, clean your teeth and look in the mirror, its soooooo nice to look half decent even before you put your make up on!
We have the Blink n Go strip lashes too - over 24 styles to choose from!
What are you waiting for, join the lash in a flash revolution - Blink N Go Swindon, only at OMG!!!

Suzy the Spud gets an OMG makeover!!!
At a recent Spud party with friends, OMG Suzy came fourth place in the best spud competition. Spud nights are set to be the next best thing when staying in. Invite your girlfriends, the host cooks the jacket potatoes, and guests bring accompanying food - cheese, beans, coleslaw, chilli, dessert and of course, loads of booze! Suzy came fourth, she was beaten by a sheep, a father christmas and a mexican!! OMG donated the winners prize of a goody bag!

New USP For my exfoliator!
After a pretty stressful and busy week last week, I attempted to do something I havent done since school - bake biscuits! I stopped by my local superstore Tesco to get my ingredients and was all ready to go... As an aside, I couldnt believe how busy Tescos was, it was heaving! Ive read about supermarkets being a great place to meet someone and I never quite understood it, but after saturday I can certainly say that shopping appeared to be the new going out!!! I actually enjoyed the hustle, bustle and buzz! Anyway, back to my biccies! They turned out ok for a novice. My only disaster (apart from mixing up celcius and farenheit) was getting home and finding out that I didnt have a rolling pin! The old fashioned milk bottles dont make it to my doorstep nowadays, and the square plastic milk cartons just wouldnt work, so what could I find?! Have a look at my piccie! I wonder if I should also include this use when selling this product to my customers! hee hee hee

Lights Camera Action!
We recently won a competition with Yellow Pages and Professional Beauty to help showcase the hair and beauty industry. Part of our winning prize was a videoshoot!!! The girls were pretty nervous about being on camera, but really stepped up to the challenge.
They were filmed in their day to day salon life and some of the team were filmed doing specific treatments. We had a model in for the day (who happened to be PBs editor!) and we gave her a makeover.
It was quite a hectic day as the salon was still open and we had clients to see, but they seemed to like the buzz and the gossip of what was going on. It was also interesting to see how the film crew worked, we cant wait to see the video and I`ll post it up on here as soon as we get it!

Bees Knees!
It was nice to treat our customers the other day to complimentary hand and arm massages and scrubs. We have just brought in a small range of Burts Bees products into the salon. They started off mainly with a beeswax line, but now have even scrummier things such as honey and milk body lotion and pomegranate sugar body scrubs!
We like the range because it truly can call itself a natural range because over 97% of its ingredients are natural - not every company can say that!
We also love the packaging, the designs are pretty "old skool" and its a refreshing change!

Nice exciting drive home!
Its very sad to admit it , but I really enjoy my drives home nowadays. I eagerly cant wait to turn the corner at the Mannington Roundabout and see what progress the John Lewis store has made that day. Theres always something going on and I can literally see a change every day! I watched a TV programme about JL not long ago and as a business owner, it was really inspiring. There stock management system was amazing!!! It also intrigues me that I can just look at an advert in a magazine or watch adverts on tele and without seeing a logo or anything, I always guess the JL one! Now thats brand identity for you!
So if anyone wants to join me for a hot chocolate in the JL store on my way home on the day it opens - 28th October - see you there!

Photoshoot with Miss Swindon 2010
We were really pleased to be asked to be involved in Emmas photoshoot. Leighanda, our senior stylist worked her magic on her hair and I did Emmas makeup.
We wanted to create something different for Emma, to create a look that she hasnt done before and we`re really pleased with the results.
Kris Talikowski, the, as always, fantastic photographer, asked for clean, nude skin and dramatic eyes.
Heres a sneak preview of the first shot, we think she looks great! What do you think?!

just grazing!!!
In our industry its hard to take regular breaks and full hour lunchbreaks. Lunchtimes are particularly busy with clients popping in and we want to try to fit them all in! Every Friday I have been getting a Graze box delivered. It comes in 4 handy little sections, so I can nibble on it inbetween clients and meetings. You can go to their website and select what foods you like and dont like and its delivered to my work every Friday for me! I have a discount code, so you can try a box for free and £1 goes to charity FPMB5N83. Go on, give it a go, it brightens up my Fridays!

Happy Bride!
Been doing some work lately on developing our bridal and occasion portfolio. We do some excellent hair and makeup work for weddings, proms and special occasions. Its been really nice this week to receive some great feedback and lovely emails from the brides, its even nicer when they then become regular clients and we get to hear all about their married lives. Heres a picture of one of our brides this year, we did her makeup, the mums and her bridesmaids! I thought it was a specially beautiful photo. Best wishes for the future Amy!
Lushest of Autumnal nail colours!
OMG indeed!!! OPI have some wonderful colours at the moment! I am loving the Ski Teal We drop, its a lovely bluey green, very rich, deep and flattering on any skin tone. Heres a piccie to prove it! Theres also a fabulous silver which I would go so far as to say its a great mimmick of Minx nails and theres a lovely taupe, pink, grey, gold and purple. They are so nice, I dont mind if my nails chip as its an excuse to try another colour!
Show time!

flutter flutter flutter!
Really pleased with how our lash extensions are going at OMG. Its sometimes hard to explain to clients how lashes make such a difference, all I can say is when our clients walk out the door beaming and text us later to say they have had so many compliments, well its fab! Four of us can do them at OMG and somedays we have waiting lists! Little tip though, if you wear glasses, make sure you dont go too long or else you will keep bashing your lenses!!!!!!!
